The redesign facilitates the journalistic bent of the site, delivering the content with a light touch without minimizing its heft. The fonts and colors remain consistent with the site’s logo and print branding.
Each author has a unique page in which a user can view a bio, contact the author via a web form, and view all the material they have contributed to Mockingbird.
In viewing a singular entry, the user is served up relevant posts from the archives based on a algorithm considering multiple weighted criteria. There is a custom tabbed widget showcasing popular posts. A slider sits atop  the home page where more substantial posts can be “stuck†and paired with large, eye catching graphics.
Custom back-end includes adding and scheduling blog posts in a custom queuing setting, batch tag/category management, and managing/embedding media. Users are organized into various roles, with different permissions allowing a range of writing, publishing, moderating and developing tasks.
Latest developments include: a custom glossary plugin, audio resource database, and PayPal integration for easy donating.
